Just like food, your taste in colors can change from different seasons or how you're feeling. It is always a good idea to look at different color schemes or inspirations provided by magazines, that can change your perspective about certain colors. Colors such as green or purple may seem unattractive to you now, but sometime in the future you might find them just as beautiful as grays or beiges.

The Sheen

July 17, 2015

What sheen should I have on my walls?

This is the question most homeowners will ask themselves after selecting their desired colors. Should I go with flat or an enamel? Should I get semi-gloss in my bathrooms and kitchens?

These are all important questions to ask, but in the end there is no right or wrong answer. Some customers do not like the look of enamel on their walls, so they would prefer going flat in the living area and satin in the kitchen and bathroom. Young couples who have children running around the house like the function of an enamel, because an enamel is more durable against abrasion. If you love a lot of shine in your paint, you could go with semi-gloss.

Both flat and enamel have their pros and cons. Flat can be easily touched up in the future, however you must be aware that the paint color will chalk and even after touch ups will not appear the same. This effect also varies from different colors. Enamel's function is its ability to stand up against abrasion and cleaning of fresh stains created by food or liquids, but enamel touch ups are nearly impossible and you will definitely see the touch up marks.

Whether you want flat or enamel, the choice is ultimately yours. Function and appearance are both things you should consider when choosing the sheen you want on your walls. I have provided a link to provide a more in-depth look at the sheen's you can pick for your next painting project

CHOOSING A COLOR IS SO HARD!

Whether it is a interior or exterior job, the biggest dilemma any customer faces is the difficult task of choosing the right color. Usually, the customer pulls out a huge fan deck and is going through hundreds of colors. In all honesty, a fan deck is nice but it is better to narrow it down to what hue you most likely want on your walls. If you want red, go to your local paint store and pick out a few swatches to take a look at. Make sure you're looking at these with natural light, because colors are effected by light reflections!

If you want a more in-depth look at picking a color, I provided a link to a HGTV article that can possibly put your mind to rest!
